Umpiring

Umpiring

Southern supports umpires. The club has an umpire coordinator who works tirelessly to train new umpires, encourage club umpires and lead the clubs JUMP (Junior Umpire Programme). A game can not be played without umpires and Southern and Auckland Hockey Umpires Association are keen to recruit more umpires to help grow the sport of hockey in Auckland.

Club Umpires

With approximately 100+ hockey games throughout Auckland every weekend, there is not enough Auckland Hockey Umpires to cover these games. Therefore as a club we are required to support the competition by providing Club umpires.

We would love for you to join our club umpire pool by contacting Jo (SDHC Umpires Co-ordinator). You don’t have to be a player or a coach. Parents, siblings, and other supports are all great Club Umpires. Anyone can be taught the skills.

There is no “payment” for umpires in Auckland, however a travel reimbursement is give to all Youth, Senior and College Sport games umpired.

Facilitated by the SDHC, and supported by AHUA, it teaches young people the skills they need to begin their umpiring career, but also teaches life skills in a safe and fun social environment. For more information you can download the Jump Umpires Handbook.
